Nepal flood: India extended helping hand, sent 10 tons of relief material and essential medicines

India on Wednesday sent 10 tonnes of humanitarian aid and disaster relief (HADR) material and essential medicines to help in relief and rescue operations following the devastating flash floods in Nepal. Taking forward its role as a first responder in natural disasters, India has sent medical supplies along with relief material. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar said that India's condolences go out to the families of those who lost their lives in this tragedy and India stands with Nepal and its people in this difficult time.

According to sources in the Ministry of External Affairs, C-130J aircraft of the Indian Air Force left for Nepal carrying relief material. This includes temporary shelter material, blankets, hygiene kits, solar lamps and essential medicines. Its objective is to provide immediate relief to the flood affected people.

Preparation to provide further relief with C-17 and C-130

The Indian Air Force said on Twitter that after the severe floods in Nepal, a C-130J aircraft has been immediately sent, which is carrying 10 tons of essential relief material and medical supplies. The Air Force said that further relief material will be delivered through C-17 and C-130 aircraft. Apart from this, helicopters have also been deployed for rescue operations and evacuation of people.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had expressed grief over the loss of lives in the flood by talking to Nepal's Prime Minister Balendra Shah on phone. Modi assured all possible humanitarian assistance to Nepal and said that the people of India stand in solidarity with their brothers and sisters of Nepal in this difficult time.

The Prime Minister said that India is ready to provide all possible assistance for relief and rescue operations. He said that teams from both the countries are working in coordination in relief and rescue efforts amid the disaster.

Nepal Embassy in New Delhi said the scope of the tragedy is huge and a large number of people, including many foreign nationals, are still missing. According to the Embassy, ​​at present the priority is to save lives by conducting search and rescue operations and to provide necessary assistance to the affected people.

Many people are feared dead after a massive flash flood in the Bhotekoshi river in Nepal's Rasuwa district on Wednesday. Hundreds of people are still reported missing. Search and rescue operations are continuing in the affected areas. (input: agency)
