The nearly 2 kg of suspected MDMA seized by the police from an alleged trafficker at Mattancherry in Kochi, Keralam, on Friday originated from Delhi, according to the investigators. Sources with the anti-narcotic wing of the Kochi City police said Mattancherry native Noufal, 32, allegedly used to source the synthetic drug from Delhi.
“As per our preliminary probe, the drug consignment was brought to Kochi by train. Further investigation is on into trace others involved in the crime,” a senior officer said. The police, sources said, have collected travel details of Mr.
Noufal from the past four months during which he had allegedly visited the capital region at least three times. He is a history-sheeter with drug cases pending against him in different police stations, according to the police.
The police are likely to recommend preventive action against him under the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act (KAAPA) in the wake of the latest case involving a large quantity of synthetic drugs. The case pertains to the seizure of 1.980 kg of suspected MDMA by the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force from a car allegedly used by Mr.
Noufal. The contraband was concealed in a tower fan and an air cooler. The police claimed it was the largest seizure of synthetic drugs within the Kochi city limits since the launch of Operation Toofan: The Narco Hunt in June.
The raid followed the recent arrest of another Mattancherry native, Safeer Thazhakath, by the Palarivattom police with 0.01 gram of suspected MDMA.
