The Bengaluru Traffic Police have booked 566 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol during a special week-long enforcement drive conducted across the city and seized the vehicles involved.
The special drive was conducted from August 24 to the night of August 30 across the limits of all 53 traffic police stations in Bengaluru. During the operation, police checked 36,654 vehicles to identify motorists violating traffic and road-safety rules.
During the checks, 566 drivers were found driving after consuming alcohol. Cases were registered against all the offenders and their vehicles were seized.
In a separate enforcement drive against overspeeding, the traffic police registered 244 cases and collected ₹2.48 lakh in fines.
Joint Police Commissioner (Traffic) Karthik Reddy said special enforcement drives against drunk driving, overspeeding and other traffic violations would continue to ensure road safety and deter motorists from endangering other road users.
