Comprehensive News & Policy Report

Tamil Nadu’s state-owned dairy cooperative Aavin has announced a price increase on milk by-products effective Wednesday. The price hikes apply to products such as butter, ghee, ultra-high-temperature (UHT) milk, packaged sweets, and premium curd/yoghurt, among others.

“In the current market situation, taking into account rising production costs, a small price revision has been made in the prices of Aavin milk by-products. This step is in no way motivated by profit. A small price revision of milk by-products has become necessary to offset production costs and to keep Aavin products competitive in the market,” a statement from Aavin said.

Aavin added that more than 90 per cent of the additional revenue from this price revision will go toward the welfare of milk producers. In September, the Tamil Nadu government issued a Government Order (GO) revising Aavin’s milk procurement price, raising it from ₹38 to ₹44 per litre.
