The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials have decided to prepare a permanent action plan to prevent sewage from entering Durgam Cheruvu.
As part of the initiative, senior officials inspected the lake on Saturday and identified four major inlets through which sewage is entering the water body. Led by HMWS&SB Joint Managing Director Mayank Mittal, the inspection focused on the Interception and Diversion structures from Madhapur and Silent Valley, Vitthal Rao Nagar box nala and the route from the TGIIC layout.
Officials examined the sewage flow at each inlet and discussed measures for diversion and treatment. According to officials, though the existing Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at Durgam Cheruvu is operating at full capacity, increased sewage generation in surrounding residential areas has intensified the problem, more particularly during the rainy season.
As part of the proposal, officials will study the topography and hydrology of the surrounding areas and prepare a comprehensive plan involving sewage diversion, treatment, and other technical measures.
