Bihar Congress leaders plan Delhi protest on Sept. 8 seeking removal of in-charge, State chief

A group of Bihar Congress leaders has written to party president Mallikarjun Kharge, stating that they will stage a peaceful sit-in outside the party headquarters, Indira Bhawan, in New Delhi on September 8, unless the Bihar unit in-charge Krishna Allavaru and State president Rajesh Kumar are removed.

The proposed protest comes amid discontent within the Bihar Congress following its poor performance in the 2025 Assembly election, in which the party won six seats, down from 19 in 2020.

In a letter dated August 15, the workers alleged “disorder” in the Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC) during the Assembly election and accused Mr. Allavaru of acting arbitrarily in the distribution of tickets.

Anand Madhab, former chairperson of the Congress Manifesto Committee for the 2020 Bihar Assembly election, said a delegation had met Mr. Kharge and other senior leaders on November 3, 2025, to raise concerns over the functioning of the State unit.

“We discussed how genuine workers were denied tickets and people from other parties got tickets. They promised to pay heed to us, but since then there has been no redress,” Mr. Madhab said.

The delegation submitted a representation to Mr. Kharge during the meeting at Hotel Maurya in Patna and was assured that the complaints would be examined and action taken after the election, the letter said. The workers also claimed they were promised a meeting with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

However, Mr. Madhab said repeated attempts to meet the party leadership had failed. “More than 10 months have passed, and the Bihar Congress is going from bad to worse. Therefore, we are left with no other option than to protest before the headquarters,” he said.

Senior Congress leader from Bihar, Kishore Kumar Jha, supported the concerns raised by the workers, but said their grievances could be addressed through discussions rather than confrontation. “They are dedicated Congress workers, and the party high command should listen to their grievances,” Mr. Jha said.

The protesters include former Bihar Congress vice-presidents Jamal Ahmed and Rajkumar Rajan, AICC member Nagendra Paswan, former MLA Chhatrapati Yadav, former BPCC secretary B. Akhtar, and former MLA Anil Kumar Singh.

Describing themselves as “true soldiers” of the Congress, the signatories said their campaign was aimed at saving the party organisation in Bihar and urged the leadership to meet them before September 8 to avert the proposed protest.
