BJP MPs raise concerns over slow pace of infrastructure projects in Odisha

Three Bharatiya Janata Party MPs from Odisha have formally approached the state’s chief minister and works minister, expressing alarm over the sluggish progress and alleged sub‑standard quality of several infrastructure works in their constituencies. Their correspondence places the Mohan Charan Majhi administration under heightened scrutiny as the legislators demand swift corrective action.

Lok Sabha member Pradeep Kumar Panigrahy, representing Berhampur, criticised the Gate Bazar flyover for using questionable raw materials and causing prolonged traffic congestion, dust pollution and commercial losses. In a separate letter, Nabarangpur MP Balabhadra Majhi pointed out that the bypass road, awarded on 2 December 2024 with a 24‑month deadline of 1 December 2026, had achieved only about 10 % physical completion after 21 months. Sambalpur‑Sonepur road widening in Subarnapur, a ₹680 crore project entrusted to the Odisha Bridge and Construction Corporation Limited (OBCC), shows no visible on‑ground progress, prompting MP Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo to request its reassignment to the Roads and Building Division for better monitoring.

The concerns echo past incidents such as the collapse of the under‑construction Bomikhal flyover in Bhubaneswar, which heightened public fear of inadequate safety standards. Political analyst Pradeep Mohanty noted that the criticism from ruling‑party MPs could erode the image of the current government, especially as citizens compare the present pace of development with the more expansive road network built under the previous Naveen Patnaik administration.
