Leader of the Opposition in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council Botcha Satyanarayana’s daughter, Botcha Anusha, was defeated in the Bondapalli ZPTC constituency, where Telugu Desam Party (TDP) nominee Pashala Neeraja won by a margin of 5,136 votes.
The result assumed significance as Bondapalli falls under the Gajapathinagaram Assembly constituency, represented by Minister for MSME Kondapalli Srinivas. Ms. Anusha is also in charge of the Bheemili Assembly constituency in Visakhapatnam district.
Celebrations broke out in Bondapalli and Gajapathinagaram following the victory, with the Minister and other party leaders taking out rallies. Mr. Srinivas said Ms. Neeraja, an ordinary woman, had defeated a prominent political personality through sustained campaigning.
Speaking to The Hindu, he said the TDP had continued its electoral success in local body elections, thanks to the effective implementation of welfare and development schemes by the N. Chandrababu Naidu government. He said rural areas would witness significant progress as the Centre was expected to release around ₹12,500 crore to Andhra Pradesh following the completion of the statutory local body elections.
