Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday claimed that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar would be removed from his post and sent to jail, accusing him of involvement in alleged vote theft. Addressing the INDIA bloc's Chalo Dilli rally at Ramlila Maidan, Gandhi alleged that electoral malpractice had taken place across several states and in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
He accused the BJP and the RSS of capturing key institutions, warning that the country's democracy and Constitution were under threat. Gandhi alleged that vote theft had taken place in Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and West Bengal, claiming that electronic voting machines and voter lists had been manipulated.
He further claimed that 13.5 crore voters had been removed from electoral rolls after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, describing the figure as evidence of widespread electoral malpractice. Gandhi alleged that the removal of voters had undermined the legitimacy of the election.
Predicting action against the Chief Election Commissioner, Gandhi said Gyanesh Kumar would lose his post and go to jail. He described the alleged manipulation of elections as a theft of citizens' voices and accused the Election Commission of enabling the BJP-led government to retain power.
Gandhi accused the RSS of capturing institutions, including the education system, the judiciary, the Central Bureau of Investigation, the Enforcement Directorate and the police. He argued that this concentration of power had deprived farmers, workers and young people of their rights and opportunities, while benefiting wealthy industrialists.
He contrasted the treatment of large industrialists with that of farmers and small business owners, alleging that powerful individuals received loan waivers while ordinary borrowers faced punitive action. Gandhi also said the RSS, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP were not his enemies.
Asked about his dharam, he said his duty was to safeguard the rights of India's people and that his beliefs taught him to work with love. Invoking the imagery of Shiva's baraat, Gandhi called for an India where everyone could participate freely and succeed through hard work, regardless of their background.
He said the country should offer equal opportunities to students, workers and young people rather than serve the interests of a handful of powerful individuals. Vinita Bhat is a Chief Copy Editor at ABP Live English, with experience in TV and digital journalism.
