CM Vijay’s big bonanza: Tamil Nadu MLAs get Rs 1 lakh allowances for cars, assistants

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay has announced government vehicles for all MLAs to enable them to work in their constituencies. They will also get a monthly vehicle allowance of Rs 75,000 and an assistant allowance of Rs 25,000 to carry out office work.

Acknowledging medical care as a fundamental right, he said the government aims to remove barriers to quality healthcare irrespective of the income or location of citizens. During his address, CM Vijay said that the allowances to the MLAs were to reduce financial strain on the public representatives, boost operational transparency, and ensure corruption-free service delivery at the grassroots level.

He confirmed that legislative amendments will be introduced in the Tamil Nadu Assembly shortly to finalise the measures. Expressing gratitude on the House floor, first-time TVK legislator K Sindhu broke into a song, rendering lines from "Koduthathellam Koduthaan" — the classic track from the 1964 MG Ramachandran (MGR) film Padagotti, originally penned by lyricist Vaali and sung by TM Soundararajan, reported PTI.

The impromptu musical gesture drew smiles from Chief Minister Vijay, Speaker JCD Prabhakar, and fellow lawmakers. Speaker Prabhakar subsequently clarified that the benefits under this announcement apply uniformly to every member of the 234-seat Tamil Nadu Assembly.
