Delhi gets BRICS makeover as India hosts Putin, Xi, Pezeshkian for Summit

The capital city is being transformed as India prepares to host the BRICS summit on September 12 and 13, with the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) coordinating a city‑wide makeover that features decorative lighting, floral displays and summit‑branded signage across major thoroughfares.

Officials disclosed that more than 15,000 potted ornamental plants have been placed at prominent sites, seventeen major roundabouts and at least a dozen hotel premises are being illuminated, and ten NDMC buildings will showcase LED signs bearing the BRICS logo. Floral boards are set up at fifteen locations, while nine sites will host floral fountains. The beautification also extends to the BRICS Friendship Rose Garden in Chanakyapuri, which houses 107 rose varieties. Parallel to the aesthetic upgrades, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and the Public Works Department have conducted joint inspections of venues such as Bharat Mandapam, Sarai Kale Khan and Lodhi Road, directing increased cleaning and sanitation efforts along the designated routes.

The initiative builds on infrastructure improvements made during India’s previous BRICS hosting in 2016, when the rose garden was established. By enhancing public spaces and ensuring hygiene, the authorities aim to provide a welcoming environment for visiting leaders—including President Vladimir Putin, President Xi Jinping and Iranian Vice President Mohammad Pezeshkian—and to minimize disruption for residents and commuters who use the same corridors daily.
