The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday revised the schedule for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Maharashtra, Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Telangana and Nagaland. The decision follows requests from the chief electoral officers of the respective states and the Union Territory of Delhi.
The poll panel issued separate communications announcing extensions to the deadlines for submitting claims and objections, disposing of claims and publishing the final electoral rolls. In Maharashtra, the deadline for filing claims and objections has been extended from October 26 to November 13.
The period for issuing notices and disposing of claims will now continue until November 25, while the final electoral roll is scheduled for publication on November 30. The draft electoral roll was published on August 31, with the disposal of claims previously scheduled to conclude on November 10.
In Delhi, the deadline for submitting claims and objections has been extended from October 30 to November 25. The deadline for disposing of claims has also been pushed back from November 30 to December 15. The final electoral roll in the national capital is now scheduled to be published on December 22.
The SIR schedule has been revised several times in the past for various reasons. The latest extensions will provide additional time for completing the electoral roll revision process in the six states and Union Territory.
