Entry-level engineers outnumber available jobs in talent market: Report

Prime Minister Mark Carney told reporters that Canada is looking to forge a tighter alliance with the European Union, though it does not intend to pursue full EU membership. The proposal comes as Ottawa seeks to broaden its international partnerships amid growing trade frictions with its traditional ally, the United States.

Carney outlined that discussions could span energy cooperation, artificial intelligence research, defence collaboration, and the development of critical mineral supply chains. He also hinted at the possibility of easing the movement of workers between the two regions, signalling a more integrated economic relationship.

Historically, Canada’s trade and security policies have been closely aligned with the United States, but recent tariff disputes have prompted a strategic shift. By deepening ties with the EU, Canada hopes to secure alternative markets, bolster its technological and resource sectors, and provide new opportunities for Canadian professionals.
