A powerful explosion damaged the Anupgarh-Suratgarh railway track in northern Rajasthan’s Sriganganagar district on Tuesday night (November 3, 2026), prompting a multi-agency investigation into a suspected attempt at train sabotage.
A passenger train had passed through the stretch barely 45 minutes before the incident. The blast, which occurred near 50 GB village, shattered two concrete railway sleepers beneath the tracks, dislodged the track clips and created a two-foot-deep crater at the site.
The North-Western Railway cancelled four train services on the route on Wednesday as a precautionary measure. Villagers living about 200 metres away from the spot heard the explosion and informed the police. While the forensic experts collected samples from the site, the security agencies were examining the vital aspects of intensity of the explosion and nature of the explosive substances used.
Sriganganagar Superintendent of Police Harishankar Yadav said the teams from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) had arrived to join the probe. “The district police are carrying out the investigation.
The exact nature of the explosion will be determined after the forensic report is received,” Mr. Yadav said.
