Comprehensive News & Policy Report

Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda on Tuesday (September 1, 2026) welcomed the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) decision to call off the protest it had planned on September 5.

The Minister’s statement came after CJP co-convener Saurav Das informed the Supreme Court that it had decided to withdraw the call for a march on September 5 in view of the positive assurances of the government.

The court quashed all First Information Reports (FIRs) registered against the students who participated in the CJP-led protests between July 20 and 25, following the NEET-UG paper leak. However, it allowed the Delhi Police to register fresh FIRs against 2,873 individuals with serious criminal antecedents who were present at the Jantar Mantar protest.

The development comes ahead of the 18th BRICS Summit, which India will host on September 12-13 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.

He, along with his colleague, Union Minister Jitendra Singh, had held discussions with student representatives on July 25 regarding the Jantar Mantar protests, Mr. Nadda said. “Keeping the students’ future in mind, we, on behalf of the Government of India, gave an assurance that the cases registered against the protesting students would be withdrawn, and that no harsh action would be taken against them in the future,” he said.

“In this regard, we also consulted with the governments in BJP-ruled States. Proceedings are underway to fulfil that assurance,” Mr. Nadda said, adding that the welfare and progress of the youth was the government’s top priority.
