The songs and background music he produced have gained popularity among the youth generation, and many actors and filmmakers are keen to have him in their films. Nevertheless, the famous composer and filmmaker Gangai Amaran has a different opinion on the present trend of music.Gangai Amaran questions Anirudh's songs, says today's music lacks lasting value In a recent interview with Maalaimalar, Gangai Amaran spoke about the changes in Tamil film music and compared the current generation of composers with legends such as Ilaiyaraaja and AR Rahman.
He questioned whether today's music has produced songs that will remain popular for several years. Speaking about Anirudh, he said, "Leaving Ilaiyaraaja and AR Rahman aside, name one song by today's young music directors that will remain popular for a long time.
Can you name even one such song composed by Anirudh?" He also expressed concern that music in Tamil cinema was no longer the same as it used to be and said people were not ready to accept this change.
