Genuine colleges alone will get fee reimbursement, says Revanth

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy told the state assembly that the government will disburse fee‑reimbursement funds to bona‑fide colleges in a step‑wise fashion, while institutions deemed non‑genuine will face scrutiny. He pledged a monthly outflow of ₹200 crore, aiming to fulfil the ₹2,500 crore requirement of the scheme, and said the amounts will be credited directly to students’ bank accounts to curb irregularities observed in college accounts.

The CM highlighted that the current fiscal plan will release ₹200 crore each month, accumulating to the projected ₹2,500 crore needed for the reimbursement programme. He also pointed to a university linked to a close aide of former chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao that reportedly holds more than ₹400 crore in its bank ledger, questioning the source of those funds. Reddy noted that for nearly a decade, college administrations remained silent despite mounting reimbursement dues, without organizing protests or public demands.

Reddy criticised the preceding BRS government for allegedly weaponising vigilance inquiries to induce defections and for granting fee‑increase approvals only to colleges favoured by the former regime. He claimed that institutions aligned with KCR received preferential treatment, whereas others were denied fee revisions. The statements underscore ongoing political tensions and raise concerns about the transparency of higher‑education financing in Telangana, affecting thousands of students awaiting refunds.
