Release of Japanese monster film postponed over IMAX screen crunch TOI Entertainment Desk / etimes.in / Oct 27, 2026, 04:45 IST The box office showdown between ‘Godzilla Minus Zero’ and 'Ramayana' may have just been averted.Just two weeks before the films could hit the big screen on its scheduled November 6 release date, a new report doing the rounds indicates that the big box office clash may have been avoided.
As per a report on Lets Cinema, the Japanese monster film 'Godzilla Minus Zero' has been postponed back due to the unavailability of IMAX screens in the country. The development comes as the films gear up to compete not only for audiences, but also for premium-format screens.
While Godzilla became the first Japanese film to be filmed in IMAX, director Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana: Rise of a Legend’, which is slated to release on the same weekend, is also set up for an IMAX release.According to a report by 123Telugu, PVR INOX Pictures, which is handling the film’s distribution in India, may be considering a new release date to ensure the film gets better access to screens in the country.
However, there has been no official confirmation of the postponement or a revised release date so far. This update comes after a previous report on Bollywood Hungama stated that ‘Godzilla Minus Zero’ was expected to get a limited release in India, as it would have shared screens and box office business with 'Ramayana' on November 6.
However, the report went on to state that owing to Ramayana's huge demand, Godzilla could have potentially got only one show a day at some IMAX properties. If the reports are true, then the film would have only a few weeks at hand before it faces some more competition for premium formats with the arrival of 'Avengers: Doomsday' and 'Dune: Part Three' already booking premium formats for its December releases.Directed by Takashi Yamazaki, ‘Godzilla Minus Zero’ is the follow-up to the acclaimed 2023 film ‘Godzilla Minus One’.
The film is scheduled to release in Japan on November 3, with its North American theatrical rollout beginning November 6. Get the latest Bollywood & Entertainment News, and more. Download the TOI app. Give your child the gift of confidence!
