Minister for Roads and Buildings B.C. Janardhan Reddy said the State government has embarked on fast-tracking road and transport infrastructure projects in Annamayya district, with top priority on quality and safety standards.

The Minister reviewed the department’s ongoing works at Rayachoti in Annamayya district on Saturday and directed the officials to complete sanctioned projects within deadlines and resolve bottlenecks related to tenders, land acquisition and pending bills.

Mr. Janardhan Reddy said that Annamayya district has 2,042 km of State highways, major district roads and other rural roads. Officials said that 81 sanctioned road works had already been initiated in the district, while payments relating to completed works were pending.

Responding to the issue, the Minister directed officials to expedite bill clearances and commence pending projects immediately. He reviewed the National Highway (NH) works, including the Rayachoti-Vempalli NH-440 project, which was executed at a cost of ₹241.69 crore.

The project has achieved 95% physical and 90% financial progress, officials said. A four-lane tunnel between km 211/500 and 217/200 on the Rayachoti-Kadapa NH-40 corridor, including approaches, has also been proposed at an estimated ₹1,000 crore, with soil exploration under way.

Meanwhile, Minister for Transport and Sports Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy separately reviewed revenue, digital services and road safety with the district officials. During the review, officials said that the Transport department’s revenue reached ₹110.45 crore in 2025-26, an increase of 8.41%.

Road accidents, fatalities and injuries declined by 10.34%, 9.86% and 12.96% respectively, during January-August 2026 compared with the corresponding period last year, officials informed the Minister. The Transport Minister also urged the officials to improve digital services, strengthen road-safety measures and address problems faced by vehicle owners at fitness-testing centres.
