Gurugram hit-and-run: Kalyan Bainsla's cousin Lavnish Gurjar arrested from Rajasthan's Dausa

A cousin of the accused driver in the Gurugram hit-and-run case was also arrested from Rajasthan's Dausa, days after the incident. Dausa [Rajasthan], Sep 15 (ANI): The accused driver, Kalyan Bainsla (L), arrested by the Gurugram Police in connection with the hit-and-run case of a female biker on Gurugram's Golf Course Road, in Dausa on Tuesday.

(ANI Video Grab) (ANI Video Grab)The main accused, identified as Kalyan Bainsla, was held by the police on Tuesday, while his cousin, Lavnish Gurjar, was also arrested in connection with the case. The incident came to light after a woman biker, identified as Sia, posted a video on Instagram showing a car hitting her motorcycle from the side, following which she fell and her vehicle skidded for several metres.

In the video, which was taken from a camera mounted on her motorcycle and included her voiceover, Sia also alleged that the occupants of the car had misbehaved with her. Bainsla was arrested after he was booked under the ‘attempt to murder’ charge.

The accused owns a gym in Haryana’s Palwal and is a former kabaddi player. His Instagram account, which has now been deactivated, earlier showed him working out and displaying his physique. Initially, an FIR was registered on Monday under sections 125 and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.Section 125 pertains to an act endangering the life or personal safety of others, while Section 281 pertains to rash driving.

The Gurugram Police later added Section 109 of BNS, which is an attempt to murder charge, in the FIR. According to police, the incident took place early on Sunday when Sia was riding her Aprilia sportbike with a group of riders.

In her video, she said the driver of a white Maruti Ciaz began chasing her and repeatedly signalled her to stop after driving dangerously close to her. “He had started chasing me on the Golf Course Road. I asked him to drive while maintaining distance.

He kept making gestures ordering me to stop my bike,” she said. She alleged that the driver “appeared to be drunk”. The video recorded from her camera appears to show the Ciaz swerving towards Sia and hitting her motorcycle.

The woman is then thrown off the bike, while her motorcycle skids for nearly 100 metres. She escaped more serious injuries as there was no vehicle immediately behind her, the footage showed. Following the incident, the accused claimed he was “sorry” and alleged that the collision was not intentional and that he fled from the spot out of fear of a mob attack.

“I was travelling with my family. I didn't make any gestures at the young woman; I simply asked her to ride her bike slowly. I admit that a collision occurred. Had I stopped right then, those people would have beaten us up,” ANI news agency cited him as saying.

His lawyer, meanwhile, pinned the blame on the woman biker, and said the video was a stunt in order to gain followers on social media, according to an NDTV report. "You see the video of the woman, see it on social media, the woman is driving at a speed of 140-170 kmph on the bike.

This road is not for stunts, this road is not for speed," he said. “It is being publicised to stir controversy. It is a woman who wants followers, who wants views, who wants publicity,” NDTV cited the lawyer as saying. Questioning the accused's claim, Sia said that she could have died.

“If you felt so sorry for me, why did you not stop at that time?” she asked. She added she could have suffered serious fractures or internal injuries and had even died. “Due to such people, roads of Gurugram and Delhi feel unsafe,” she added.
