The Karnataka Cabinet on Thursday (September 3, 2026) decided to withdraw the controversial Karnataka Government Parks (Preservation) (Amendment) Bill, 2026, that allowed alienation of upto 5% of park and garden land for public infrastructure.

It will be opened for public discussion before being reintroduced again in the next legislature session. The Governor will be intimated about the decision. The bill, which was passed in the Monsoon Session without discussion, had seen widespread protests by environmental groups, civil society organisations as well as Opposition leaders.

Following intense pressure, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar had said that the proposal could be discussed again in the Karnataka Assembly. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has initiated an enforcement drive against companies producing infant food products to ensure safety and compliance.

According to FSSAI, officials have taken legal action against Bengaluru-based British Life Sciences Private Limited, which was found to be violating certain food safety standards in infant food products. The officials ordered destruction of around 3.7 metric tonnes of expired infant food articles, as per directions of the court.

The expired stock was safely disposed of to prevent its reuse, diversion, or reintroduction into the food chain. British Life Sciences is part of British Biologicals, and specialises in maternal and child nutrition.
