If attacks on TMC continue, will stage dharna outside BJP leaders' houses in Delhi: Former West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee

Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday (September 3, 2026) condemned the alleged vandalism at Trinamool Congress’ (TMC) Camac Street office in Kolkata, and warned that her party would stage demonstrations outside the residences of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in New Delhi if such "atrocities" continued.

Addressing the issue in a Facebook Live, Ms. Banerjee charged BJP-backed men with looting documents and equipment and said the alleged attack on the TMC office reflected the deteriorating law and order situation in the State.

"We condemn the vandalism at our party office early in the morning in Kolkata. If this is the law and order situation in Kolkata, just imagine what is prevailing in rural areas," the former Chief Minister said. Ms. Banerjee alleged that the BJP workers had vandalised the TMC's office after taking the Kolkata Police "in confidence" and had taken away important documents and equipment from the premises.

"BJP goons looted our documents and equipment and vandalised our office by taking Kolkata Police in confidence," she alleged. The former three-term Chief Minister also accused the BJP of indulging in "total lawlessness" in West Bengal and condemned what she described as hooliganism at Jadavpur University.

"What happened at Jadavpur University was the hooliganism of the BJP. We condemn this," Ms. Banerjee said. The TMC supremo alleged that a situation was being created in which she was being prevented from moving freely. "The Chief Minister is stating that they will not allow me to go out of my home," she said, referring to the alleged threats and intimidation.

Ms. Banerjee warned that the TMC would not remain silent if attacks on its leaders and offices continued. "If these atrocities on the TMC don't stop, we will stage dharnas outside BJP leaders' homes in New Delhi," the former West Bengal Chief Minister said.

Her remarks came hours after TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee alleged that BJP-backed armed men vandalised the party's Camac Street office in Kolkata in the early hours of Thursday (September 3, 2026).

Ms. Banerjee shared purported CCTV footage on social media, showing several men with masks and helmets on leaving the premises carrying electronic equipment, including television sets and a printer. “A room inside the office was also seen in the footage with damaged furniture and electronic equipment.

The police subsequently arrested six people in connection with the incident,” an officer said. The allegations have triggered a fresh political confrontation between the ruling TMC and the BJP in the State, with both sides trading accusations over law and order and political violence.
