IGNOU launches one-year MA in Development Studies for four-year graduates

The Indira Gandhi National Open University announced the launch of a one‑year Master of Arts in Development Studies (MADVSOY) for the July 2026 session, administered through its School of Extension and Development Studies. The new postgraduate offering is designed to equip students with theoretical and practical knowledge of development processes.

The 40‑credit programme spans two semesters, each carrying 20 credits. Core courses in the first semester include Introduction to Development and Development Theories, Dynamics of Development, and Issues and Challenges of Development, while the second semester mandates Research Methodology in Development Studies and offers electives such as Gender Studies, Development Planning and Communication, and Urban Development. Eligibility is limited to graduates of four‑year undergraduate programmes, professional agriculture or allied degrees, and four‑year BE/BTech holders, with a total fee of Rs 8,000. Applications are accepted via the IGNOU admission portal (ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in).

IGNOU’s initiative responds to growing demand for skilled professionals in government agencies, NGOs, CSR units, and other organisations focused on social and economic development. By providing a concise, field‑oriented curriculum, the university aims to broaden career pathways for graduates across disciplines and strengthen the talent pool serving India’s development sector.
