Images of Gauri Lankesh murder accused with Police Commissioner shared on social media

Images of a person accused of murder of activist Gauri Lankesh and another, charged with drug peddling taken with Police Commissioner Borase Bhushan Gulabarao of Hubballi Dharwad, were widely shared on social media. The images of Amit Baddi, accused of involvement in the murder and Khet Singh Rajpurohit, accused of narcotic offences, were shared on social media.

They were taken when they went to welcome him in his office a few days ago, when he took charge. However, the police commissionerate has denied any connection. It clarified that there was no connection of officers with persons with criminal antecedents.

“Over the last two days, more than 200 citizens visited the Commissioner of Police Office to extend greetings on my assuming charge. In such a large gathering, it has come to notice that a few persons having criminal antecedents were also present and photographs were taken.

Their presence or photographs should not be construed as any association with the Police Department. Hubballi-Dharwad City Police remains committed to strict and impartial action against crime and criminals, without fear or favour,” a release stated.
