Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan on Wednesday (September 2, 2026) sought the support of the Union government and the Coconut Development Board to establish a Coconut Value-Addition Park in the State for modernising the coconut sector and ensuring increased incomes for the farmers.
The Chief Minister was addressing the World Coconut Day celebrations organized under the aegis of the Coconut Development Board here. Mr. Satheesan underscored the need to restructure coconut farming in Keralam through a shift from traditional methods to scientific and planned plantation models.
It is important that productivity is increased through scientific management and effective disease control, he added. Agriculture Minister T. Siddique, who presided, said the government intended to implement a ‘Coconut Rejuvenation Plan’ with the support of the Union government and the Coconut Development Board.
He said the Agriculture Department will submit a ₹500 crore project to the Coconut Development Board. The project will cover all aspects of coconut farming right from the production of planting material to marketing, he said.
In the first phase of the programme, the department intends to take forward the activities with ₹500 crore as the board’s share and ₹41 crore as the State government share, he said.
