Comprehensive News & Policy Report

The police have issued look-out notices against four persons suspected of involvement in the theft of about ₹8 crore (3.1 million Qatari riyals) from the central office of the Qatar Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre (KMCC) in Doha.

According to Koyilandy police, the notices have been issued against Shajahan alias Bombay Shaji, Abdul Razak alias Rotana Razak, his brother Hussain Assainar, and Abdul Nisar. Two more persons from Payyoli, Khamaruddeen and Razak, have also been arraigned as accused, taking the total number of accused in the case to eight.

The latest developments follow the surrender of Parappil Balakrishnan, a welder and a local Bharatiya Janata Party functionary from Viyyoor, before the police. He was subsequently produced before a Judicial Magistrate Court and remanded to judicial custody.

According to police sources, the theft took place on September 18, 2025, at the KMCC office in the Al Thumama area of Doha. The accused restrained the office staff member on duty before breaking into the strong room using a gas cutter and making away with about 3.1 million Qatari riyals, the sources said.

The theft came under public scrutiny after the organisation’s leadership allegedly delayed reporting the incident to the authorities. A formal complaint was subsequently lodged by KMCC vice-president P.K. Abdul Raheem, following which the police intensified the investigation.

A senior police officer associated with the probe confirmed that a special investigation team was now tracking the remaining seven accused, with efforts being made to trace those believed to be outside the country. The statements of a few more persons reportedly linked to the suspects would also be recorded, the officer added.
