Kukatpally has record number of SIR rejections in Telangana at 32%

Kukatpally constituency has singularly topped the rejection list so far in the ongoing notice period of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls in the State. The constituency, which is part of Medchal Malkajgiri district, has recorded a whopping 32% rejection rate, despite its relatively lower number of hearings conducted.

State wide, across 119 constituencies, the number of electors found ineligible for final rolls stands at 397, which is only a minuscule portion (0.16%) of the total 2,35,365 hearings held, as the numbers stand on September 2, 2026.

Of the total rejections, a total 228 were recorded in Medchal Malkajgiri district alone, accounting for 0.67% of the total 33,551 hearings held up to the aforementioned date. Of the five constituencies which are part of the district, Kukatpally is the source of most of the rejections.

Of the 670 electors for whom hearings were conducted, 215 have been classified as ‘ineligible for final rolls’ at the level of the Electoral Registration Officer/Assistant Electoral Registration Officer. The precise reason for such high number of rejections is not known as the officials could not be reached for their comment.

Narayankhed constituency too recorded high number of voters ineligible for final rolls, at 64. Officials attributed it to the constituency’s geographical position, sharing borders with the neighbouring Karnataka. Other constituencies with double digit rejections are Palakurthi with 22 from Yadadri Bhongir district, Peddapalle with 14 from Jagtial district, and Alampur 12 from Jogulamba Gadwal district.

Hyderabad district has only 16 electors who have been classified as ineligible, after 25,212 hearings. Of these, nine were from Yakutpura constituency, six from Karwan and one from Secunderabad. Ranga Reddy district has recorded five rejections, of which two are from the city’s Rajendranagar constituency.

All the rejected electors will have two more opportunities to appeal, one with the District Election Officer and the Chief Electoral Officer. “We have instructions not to reject the electors on flimsy reasons, and to include as many electors as possible on the rolls.

Most of the rejected electors are deceased ones,” shared an official under the condition of anonymity.
