Comprehensive News & Policy Report

The rain-soaked Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi turned into a sea of white turbans, music and cheers on Friday (October 30, 2026) evening as thousands of fans braved hours of rain to catch Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh perform in the capital.

The unseasonal showers, which continued through the day and into the evening, did little to dampen the enthusiasm of concertgoers, who began gathering outside the stadium hours before the show. By evening, the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium Metro station was packed, with queues stretching at its exit as fans made their way to Gate No.

14 of the venue. With no general parking available at the stadium, many opted to travel by Metro. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) had also extended services on all lines (except the Airport Express line) upto midnight for the concertgoers.

The excitement was visible as early as 3 p.m., with fans arriving in groups, some dressed in Dosanjh’s popular white and black kurta-pyjama and turban combination. Several women, too, sported white turbans with their outfits.

Students from universities, including Jamia Millia Islamia and Delhi University, along with residents and visitors from other cities, gathered around the box office. Some were still hoping to get their hands on last-minute tickets.

“We could not get the tickets online, but we really wanted to attend the show. So, we came here in the hope that we might get a last minute ticket or from someone who had an extra one,” a student told The Hindu. Many fans had travelled from different parts of the country and abroad, with some attending their second or even third Dosanjh concert.

The audience was diverse, spanning children, young fans and older couples. Among those Dosanjh invited on stage was a CRPF personnel. Complaint filed seeking curbs on Diljit Dosanjh’s Delhi show Pooja Bajaj, who had travelled from London, said this was her first time watching the singer perform live.

“We have come from London to watch Diljit Dosanjh’s concert. This is the first time I am attending it,” she said excitedly. Satnam Singh had travelled all the way from Toronto, Canada, specifically for the Delhi show. Having previously attended Dosanjh’s concert in Ludhiana in December, he said he was keen to experience the singer’s performance in the capital as well.

“I had attended the concert in Ludhiana earlier in December. I have come from Toronto, especially for this. I enjoyed Diljit’s concert in Toronto as well,” he said. For Tarasha Kaur, who arrived with her son and other family members, the evening was an opportunity to finally experience the singer’s performance, after following his concerts through videos.

“My son attended Diljit’s show in Canada and he loved it. Since then, we have wanted to attend too. Now, all of us are together for this show. Earlier, we enjoyed the show through videos and today we are going to do it live,” she said.

“Punjabi pride is so central to Diljit’s personality, and seeing him represent that identity on a global stage makes me immensely proud. He has all the qualities you would expect from an international artiste. He is charming in a very Punjabi way, immensely talented, values his roots and his fans, and is not afraid to make a political statement when needed.

That combination is what makes him special,” said Kiran Singh, who had come from Chandigarh to attend Diljit Dosanjh’s Delhi concert. For one teenage fan, the concert was special as it was the first time her parents had relaxed her curfew to let her attend a show.

“My parents know how big a fan I am of Diljit. His posters are everywhere in my room. I have never stepped out after 7 p.m. alone, but today, for this concert, my parents allowed me to go,” she said. Another fan had travelled from Ludhiana, Dosanjh’s hometown, to watch him perform in the national capital.

Addressing the crowd, Dosanjh referred to the uncertainty surrounding the Delhi leg of his tour and said several attempts had been made to prevent the first show from taking place. “We wanted to do the first show in Delhi.

Many tried to stop this show, but I’m here and the first show has been done. I am in India until December 20 and will do all the other shows also. Try and stop me,” he told the audience.
