“Police lathis as well as gunfire from AK-47s and pistols left many students injured,” Mr. Gandhi said in a post on X. He claimed that a young man aspiring to join the Army had suffered a leg injury from an AK-47 bullet, shattering his “life-long dream” of serving the country.
Questioning the use of lathis and firearms against students, Mr. Gandhi said the government could not absolve itself of responsibility by blaming “a few low-ranking officials”. The police action, he said, was either the result of orders from above or a sign of the “utter failure” of the administration.
“No matter what the Bihar government does, I stand with these young people. I am ready to provide them with every possible assistance,” he said. “The BJP should remember: any regime that suppresses the voice of the youth eventually has to answer to the people.
That day is not far off,” he added. Mr. Gandhi also extended his support to the minor student activist who is seeking action against those who allegedly assaulted her father during the Jantar Mantar protests. In a post on X, he said she was being targeted for raising her voice for the rights of her community and students.
He was responding to her plea for his help in registering a case with the Delhi Police. Mr. Gandhi referring to her struggle said,“Your fight is not alone. We won’t stop until justice is served,” he said, accusing the Delhi Police of “inhuman brutality” against students.
He also questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the alleged protection being extended to the person accused of assaulting her father. “Will there be action now, or will you keep shielding someone?” Mr.
