Comprehensive News & Policy Report

Chief Minister A.Revanth Reddy alleged that the proposed Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls was being used to systematically remove anti-BJP votes, and the Communist parties should join hands with the Congress in the fight to defeat such nefarious activities.

Speaking at a memorial meeting organised in Hyderabad in memory of Communist leader and farmers’ activist Sarampalli Malla Reddy, the Chief Minister alleged that the BJP was replicating its West Bengal strategy in Telangana by identifying and removing anti-BJP voters at the polling-booth level.

He claimed that there was a conspiracy to delete one crore votes in Telangana and alleged that private agencies were being engaged to conduct surveys for identifying voters. SCs, STs and minorities, he alleged, were among the main targets of the exercise.

Appealing to the Left parties to support the Congress in its fight against “vote theft”, the Chief Minister said defeating Mr. Modi would amount to a victory for the Communists as well. “We should be united and fight against Modi in the country.

Elections and fundamental rights of the poor are different aspects,” he said. He said the Communist parties had a long history of fighting for the rights of the poor and that the Red Flag had given the weaker sections confidence and reassurance.

Remembering Sarampalli Malla Reddy, the Chief Minister said the veteran leader had risen from a remote area to the national stage and dedicated his life to the cause of farmers. His death was an “irreparable loss” to the farming community, he said, praising Mr.

Malla Reddy’s understanding of agricultural issues and his articulate manner of raising them.
