Rubber Board has introduced ‘INR Konnect’, a digital platform developed to connect stakeholders and facilitate the adoption of untapped natural rubber plantations, bringing them into productive tapping. Inaugurating the public-facing campaign, N.
Hari, Chairman, Rubber Board, said that there is a need to bring the younger generation back to natural rubber cultivation and formulate programmes to attract young people to the sector thereby encouraging new industrial ventures.
M. Vasanthagesan, Executive Director, explained the situation that led to the creation of a platform like INR Konnect to serve untapped plantation owners and tappers. It is up to the stakeholders to take this initiative forward.
He also invited suggestions from potential users to make this facility more effective. The Rubber Board organised the awareness campaign on ‘Introduction of INR Konnect to Stakeholders’ as part of Reforms Utsav, an initiative of the Government of India aimed at creating awareness about institutional reforms, promoting citizen-centric service delivery and communicating the benefits of reform-oriented initiatives to stakeholders and the general public.
The campaign aims to familiarise natural rubber growers, tappers, prospective plantation adopters and other interested agencies with INR Konnect as considerable area of NR plantations remains untapped due to various factors, including the lack of adequate skilled tappers, limited access to interested adopters and difficulties in connecting plantation owners with prospective tappers or adopters.
INR Konnect seeks to address this gap by providing a digital interface that facilitates connections among plantation owners, tappers, prospective adopters and other stakeholders. Bringing untapped plantations under tapping can help increase natural rubber production by optimum use of available resources.
It can also create opportunities for rubber tappers and prospective plantation adopters while enabling plantation owners to make better use of their existing resources.
