Singapore-flagged vessel fire off Kerala coast: Pollution risk assessment warns of future shoreline impact from lost containers
A risk assessment by the International Tanker Owners Pollution Federation (ITOPF) warns that containers lost from the Singapore‑flagged vessel Wan Hai 503, which caught fire off Kerala on June 9 2025, could cause shoreline pollution in future decades. The National Green Tribunal has ordered the vessel’s owners to detail cargo contents and environmental impacts, prompting a detailed report and remedial actions by Kerala authorities.
