‘Fossil fuels will still play important role’: BRICS Declaration opposes carbon border tax
At the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, member states adopted a declaration stating that fossil fuels will remain a key part of the world’s energy mix, particularly for developing economies, and denounced the European Union’s carbon‑border adjustment mechanism. The text also urged richer nations to provide predictable finance and technology to help the Global South adapt to climate impacts and manage disaster risks.
