The Central Consumer Protection Authority imposed a Rs 10 lakh penalty on Rapido’s operator for using misleading prompts and dark‑pattern designs that push users to pay higher fares, and it flagged similar concerns across other ride‑hailing apps. The authority classified the practices as “Confirm Shaming” and “Interface Interference” and cited violations of the 2025 Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines.
The consumer watchdog found that Rapido used two practices classified as dark patterns - “confirm shaming” and “interface interference” - and directed the company to discontinue misleading prompts and practices that steer consumers towards higher payments, the CCPA said in a statement on Tuesday.
Rapido users in several Indian cities reported app outages today. The ride-hailing service experienced a brief technical issue affecting many users. Commuters faced difficulties booking rides during peak office hours.
