BJP candidate Hasi Rani Rath secured a victory in the Nandigram by‑election in West Bengal, defeating Congress rival Milan Pradhan by more than one lakh votes. In Tamil Nadu, the TVK party won the Madurantakam and Dharapuram seats, adding to its legislative presence.
The development came a day after Mamata Banerjee's party's Nandigram by-election nominee Sanchita Pradhan Dey withdrew her candidature following a meeting with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.
