The Jharkhand Chief Electoral Officer, K Ravi Kumar, announced on Tuesday that the final deadline for submitting claims and objections related to the Statewise Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has been moved to September 30. The extension follows a previous push from stakeholders and political parties seeking more time to address discrepancies in the draft list.
The draft electoral roll, released on August 5, omitted 4,361,987 names classified under absent, shifted, dead or duplicate categories. Of these, 7,63,903 were marked as dead, 15,92,194 as shifted, 14,50,810 as absent or untraceable, and 68,283 as duplicate entries. The Election Commission also indicated that notices for hearings would be issued to 63,24,116 voters. Citizens can now file Form 6 for inclusion, Form 7 for objections or deletions, and Form 8 for corrections such as address changes, all through ECINET or their Booth Level Officer.
The deadline extension comes after Congress leaders, including state general secretary Suryakant Shukla, submitted a memorandum on September 11 requesting additional time. The CEO emphasized that the SIR aims to ensure no eligible Indian citizen is excluded from the electoral roll while preventing ineligible entries, urging voters to complete the process well before the final date to avoid last‑minute complications.
