Former MLA Gunda Lakshmi Devi on Monday requested people living in rural areas to come forward and donate blood to help save the lives of patients and road accident victims.
Ms. Lakshmi Devi along with with Indian Red Cross Society chairman P. Jaganmohana Rao, inaugurated a blood donation camp organised by the residents of Arasavilli, led by doctor Injarapu Mohana Rao at the Satyasai devotional centre in Srikakulam.
Speaking on the occasion, she said that the district annually needs 32,000 units of blood, but only about 6,000 units are collected from the district.
Mr. Jaganmohana Rao said that people in rural areas were generally healthy because of the physical work in fields and urged them to donate blood frequently to save patients in need.
Ms. Lakshmi Devi said; “Women can also donate blood.” She acknowledged that anaemic was common among women in rural areas due to several reasons.
