Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Thursday (August 27, 2026) presented the Nammazhvar Awards for excellence in organic farming for 2025-26 to three farmers at the Secretariat in Chennai.
The awards were presented to C. Nallasivam of Namakkal district, A. Subramanian of Pudukkottai district, and Sadhana of Chengalpattu district. Each award carries a cash prize of ₹2 lakh and a medal.
Mr. Vijay also inaugurated, through video conference, newly constructed buildings of the Police Department and the Fire and Rescue Services Department at the Secretariat, built at a total cost of ₹164.64 crore. The inaugurated buildings include police stations, police quarters, departmental stores, fire stations, and quarters for fire and rescue services personnel across various parts of the State.
Besides, Mr. Vijay presented the Union government’s Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak 2025 and certificate of commendation to Srisha, wife of the late P.S. Gowrishankar Raja, the headmaster of the Panchayat Union Primary School at Eluvapalli in Krishnagiri district.
The award was conferred posthumously on Gowrishankar Raja for his act of bravery in attempting to save an eight-year-old student who had fallen into an agricultural farm pond near the school. Though both Raja and the student died, the award was conferred posthumously on him in recognition of his bravery and courage.
Chief Secretary M. Sai Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary, Home, Prohibition and Excise, K. Manivasan, Director-General of Police Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, and Director of Fire and Rescue Services G. Venkataraman were among those present.
