However, existing regulations, government contracts, grants and historical archival records will not be changed retroactively.Explaining the rationale, the order said advances in technology had outgrown the original framework used to describe artificial intelligence.“The capabilities of today’s frontier systems do much more than imitate or automate discrete aspects of human intelligence.

They increasingly amplify human ingenuity and unlock new forms of creativity, empowering Americans to achieve what was previously impossible across science, medicine, and nearly every other domain of human endeavor,” the order stated, news agency ANI reported. The directive also gives the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology 60 days to submit proposed legislation to Congress defining “Super Intelligence” under federal law and recommending corresponding changes to existing laws. The move follows a White House meeting between Trump and leading technology executives, including Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Sundar Pichai and Jensen Huang, to discuss technological advances and the safe development of advanced systems.Trump described the sector’s growth as unprecedented, while industry leaders stressed the importance of collaboration and safety. The proposed change marks a shift in the terminology the Trump administration wants federal agencies to use when referring to advanced technologies.
