Two motorcycle riders were killed and another injured in two separate road accidents in the city on Monday (September 7). In the first incident, Abhiram, 24, a resident of Thripunithura, died after the bike carrying him and his friend Akhil Shibu, 23, also from Thripunithura, crashed into a wall near Market Road in Thripunithura around 2.45 a.m.
Shibu sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment. The Hill Palace police have registered a case and are investigating the cause of the accident. In the second incident, P. Unnikrishnan, 61, a native of Chullikal, died after the bike he was riding fell under a lorry that tried to overtake the two-wheeler at DCC Junction on MG Road.
It is suspected that the bike hit a roadside railing as the lorry came too close to it, causing the rider to lose control and fall under the lorry. The Ernakulam Central police have registered a case over the incident.
