Will uproot forces raising ‘anti-national’ slogans, says West Bengal CM

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari reiterated his commitment to eliminate forces that display slogans such as “Kashmir demands freedom” on the Jadavpur University (JU) campus, speaking to a crowd gathered outside the institution after concluding the Gerua Samman Yatra. The CM emphasized that any insult to the saffron colour or the nation would not be tolerated.

Addressing the assembly, Adhikari noted that the march began at Golpark and proceeded to Jadavpur, drawing hundreds of saffron‑clad saints and seers, thousands of supporters and several Members of the Legislative Assembly. He warned that those who raise slogans like “Kashmir mange azaadi” or “red salute to Kishenji” would be “ripped out from their roots,” and announced his intention to return to the campus twice – first to teach a lesson and later to recite the Gita and Hanuman Chalisa. In parallel, JU removed Acting Registrar Selim Baksh Mondal, installing Debjit Dutta as interim registrar, while Indrajit Bandyopadhyay took over as Acting Finance Officer.

The statements come amid earlier reports of alleged anti‑national graffiti and posters surfacing on the JU campus after clashes between student groups affiliated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and the left‑leaning Students’ Federation of India. The CM’s firm stance signals heightened political scrutiny of campus activities and could affect the university’s administrative stability and student climate.
