Andhra Pradesh raises age limit for government jobs to 44 years till 2027: how APPSC compares with Telangana, Kerala and UPSC

The state cabinet issued a new government order (G.O. Ms. No. 187) raising the ceiling for non‑uniform government jobs from 42 to 44 years, a move announced just weeks before the application window opens on 6 October. The decision was taken by the Andhra Pradesh Government, represented by Chief Minister N.

Chandrababu Naidu and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh, and will be administered by the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC).\n\nThe order covers 892 posts slated for recruitment, including 163 Group‑I services, 196 Assistant Statistical Officer positions, and a range of roles in environmental engineering, horticulture and welfare.

Application windows are staggered between 6 October and 16 October, with the final deadline on 5 November. A parallel order (G.O. Ms. No. 188) extends the upper age limit for uniformed services by one year, also until 30 September 2027, and adds the standard Rule 12 concessions for SC, ST and BC candidates, raising their ceiling to 49 years for non‑uniform posts.\n\nThe amendment follows longstanding representations from members of the Legislative Council and concerns over limited recruitment opportunities for unemployed youth.

Previously, the service rules set the upper age at 34 years, with a prior relaxation to 42 years; the new limit adds a decade beyond the rule‑based ceiling. With this change, Andhra Pradesh now ranks second among southern states, trailing Telangana by two years and standing 12 years ahead of the Union Public Service Commission’s age limit, signalling a broader effort to widen the talent pool for state civil services.
