Collector calls for timely completion of Jal Jeevan works in Chittoor

District Collector Sumit Kumar instructed the officials on Wednesday to expedite all drinking water supply works sanctioned under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and complete them as per the stipulated deadlines. Reviewing the District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM) committee meeting here, the Collector said the government’s prime objective was to provide safe drinking water to every household in the rural areas under the Har Ghar Jal initiative.

He directed officials to prepare advance action plans for water-scarce areas, keeping in light the El Niño impact and deficient rainfall. Works like deepening of borewells, cleaning, installation of pump sets, pumping mains, power supply and GI pipes must be taken up on priority, he said.

The Collector also stressed that there should be no delay in single-village and multi-village schemes. Quality standards must be strictly followed in laying pipelines and construction of overhead tanks, he said, warning of strict action against negligent contractors.

He said that Rural Water Supply, Panchayat Raj and Revenue departments should work in coordination to resolve land acquisition issues immediately. The Collector said that funds must be utilised properly and bills of completed works cleared without delay, while power connections, permissions and demand notices for JJM works should be fast-tracked in coordination with Discoms.

The Collector further called for continuous monitoring of water supply and tanker trips, offline entry in areas without mobile signal, regular water quality testing in villages, schools, anganwadis and hostels with updates on PR ONE and Jalmitra portals.

Additionally he emphasised the activation of Village Water and Sanitation Committees with monthly meetings and uploading minutes on e-Gram Swaraj.
