The Indian benchmark indices rose on Friday as the Sensex increased over 215 points to settle at 77,264 points and the Nifty rose more than 80 points to close trade at 24,175 at 3:30 PM. In the 30-share BSE Sensex, among the top gainers were stocks such as TCS, Infosys, TechMahindra, HCLTech and Titan.

Meanwhile, Tata Steel, Reliance, Mahindra and Mahindra, Bajaj Finserv and Maruti. In the broader markets, the Nifty Smallcap 500 and the Nifty Smallcap 250 gained 0.34 per cent and the Nifty Smallcap 50 fell 0.06 per cent as volatility declined.

Sectorally, the Nifty Chemicals index fell 0.70 per cent and the Nifty IT rose 3.51 per cent. Previously, during the early morning session, the BSE Sensex opened 245.56 points higher at 77,191.80, while the NSE Nifty gained 54.20 points to open at 24,147.50.

Indian equity benchmarks opened higher on Friday, recovering from the previous session's sharp decline, as global market cues turned more supportive. Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, traded 0.56 per cent lower at USD 89.20 per barrel.

In Asian markets, South Korea's Kospi traded lower, while Japan's Nikkei 225 index, Shanghai's SSE Composite index and Hong Kong's Hang Seng index quoted higher. "Global cues are more supportive than they have been at any point this week.

US markets closed firmly higher, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average gaining 0.20 per cent, the S&P 500 rising 0.72 per cent and the Nasdaq advancing 1.57 per cent," Hariselvan Radhakrishnan, Founder & CEO of HST Wealth, a Research Analyst firm, said.

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) offloaded equities worth Rs 298.26 crore on Thursday, according to exchange data. Technology and semiconductor stocks, however, received a boost from Nvidia's quarterly results, which triggered a broader rally across AI-linked names in the US.

Attention now turns to Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's first Jackson Hole keynote, which Ponmudi described as the week's most closely watched macro event. The domestic market had ended lower for the second consecutive session on Thursday.

The Sensex fell 539.35 points, or 0.70 per cent, to settle at the day's low of 76,933.59 on the monthly derivatives-expiry day. Similarly, the Nifty declined 116.90 points, or 0.48 per cent, to end at the day's low of 24,090.85.
