Devotees gather for historic consecration of Meenakshi temple in Madurai

The Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple in Madurai is set to host a historic consecration ceremony, with Tamil Nadu’s Minister for Energy Resources and Law C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar announcing the event and highlighting the personal involvement of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay in overseeing the final preparations. The minister described the occasion as a source of pride for the current administration and emphasized that every arrangement has been meticulously executed under the chief minister’s direction.

Large numbers of devotees arrived at the temple premises carrying colour‑coded permit passes—red, yellow, purple and green—that direct them to specific access zones near the temple core. Authorities have ensured uninterrupted drinking water and electricity supplies, positioned fully equipped medical units and ambulances on standby, and established a special cordon for VIPs, judges and officials from 3 a.m. The ceremony is scheduled to conclude at 10 a.m., after which general attendees without passes will be allowed entry.
