Driver who rammed woman biker in Gurugram detained for attempt to murder

Gurgaon police announced on Tuesday that the case against Kalyan Bainsla, a gym owner from Palwal and former kabaddi player, has been escalated to include Section 109 of the BNS – attempt to murder – following a collision that left a female biker injured on Golf Course Road. The police spokesperson, ASI Sandeep Kumar, confirmed that the driver has been detained and that the investigation will continue to establish full liability.

The crash occurred on Sunday when the woman, identified as Sia, was riding an Aprilia RS 457 sports bike with a group of riders. The car involved, a white Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, had been borrowed two days earlier from an Army officer posted in Assam and bears a Haryana registration from Palwal. Initial FIRs for rash driving and endangering life were filed at the Sector 56 police station after authorities took suo motu cognisance of viral footage. CCTV analysis led to the addition of the attempt‑to‑murder charge, which carries a maximum sentence of ten years.

Sia, who runs the Instagram handle “rebelwheels_sia_”, refuted Bainsla’s claim that she was speeding or that he was unaware of a female rider, pointing to video evidence that shows the car cutting sharply into her lane. The incident has sparked debate over road‑rage behavior and the safety of motorcyclists in the region, prompting calls for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and better protection for vulnerable road users.
