Comprehensive News & Policy Report

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has arrested four people, two alleged drug peddlers and two buyers, with 10 kg of suspected ganja at Ernakulam Junction (South) railway station. The arrested are Buddha Debu Mondal, 22, and Suman Choudary, 22, both from Murshidabad in West Bengal, and Akash Babu, 22, and Athul Santhosh, 27, both from Chottanikkara.

While the Murshidabad natives were nabbed with the suspected ganja when they arrived at the station on Friday (September 11) by the Shalimar-Thiruvananthapuram Express, the youth from Chottanikkara were apprehended for allegedly buying the contraband.

The accused were apprehended in a joint operation conducted by the RPF and the Government Railway Police (GRP). “Based on preliminary investigation, it is suspected that the ganja was brought from Odisha. Searches will be intensified at stations and inside trains in the coming days,” RPF-GRP officials said in a release.

The Nedumbassery police, meanwhile, arrested one more accused in connection with the seizure of 22.17 grams of suspected MDMA in July. The arrested person is Abhinav Raj, 26, of Edakkad in Kozhikode. Two people were arrested following the seizure of the contraband, which was allegedly being trafficked from Bengaluru in a car.

Mr. Raj is an accused in drug cases registered at Kozhikode Kasaba and Elathur police stations, the Ernakulam rural police said.
