Maharashtra government in touch with 338 of the 404 stranded in Nepal

Maharashtra government is in touch with 338 of the 404 people stranded in Nepal after the flash floods and mudslides, the government said on Saturday (August 29, 2026).

Of them, 41 returned from Saga on Saturday (August 29) evening, while 106 tourists will reach Nagpur at 4.30 a.m. on Sunday (August 30). 45 tourists who had travelled with an Ahilyanagar-based travel agency have also entered India. “About 143 citizens are on their way to return to the state successfully,” the Maharashtra government said in a statement issued on Saturday night. Till 31 August, a total of 69 tourists are expected to land in Mumbai.

“We are in touch with a few individuals of the groups of stranded tourists. One-to-one touch has not yet been possible. We are collating the list of individuals,” an official told The Hindu on Saturday (August 29) night.

“Government agencies at various levels are working round the clock to help the citizens of Maharashtra and tourists who had gone for religious tourism,” an official said.

The government has started helplines for the people stranded in Nepal. The Nagpur-based tourists have started their journey from Bihar towards Nagpur. The group of 45 tourists travelling with an Ahilyanagar-based agency were in Chitwan during the flood. “Since the route to Kathmandu is closed today, they are being brought via Lumbini in Nepal, and after reaching Ayodhya today, further planning will be done as per the instructions of the government,” the official said.

The government is trying to establish contact with eight persons from Mumbai, who are yet to be traced. “Information has been given about eight tourists from Borivali and Andheri. They are stranded in Nepal due to the disaster. Out of these, efforts are being made to get more information from Lakshminarayan Acharya from Andheri, but as he or others in the group cannot be contacted through mobile, there are difficulties at present. Efforts are being made to establish contact with them. The administration is in touch with the relatives of these tourists in Mumbai,” the government said.

“The Ministry of External Affairs has sent a list of 149 Indian tourists who have safely entered Nepal from China till the end of August 28 to the states. Action is being taken to safely reach them in their districts. Instructions have been given to the concerned citizens of the districts of Maharashtra to verify and collect their information and names. These tourists will return to India soon. In this, the Emergency Control Room (BMC EOC) of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has not received any call regarding any citizen of Mumbai city or Mumbai suburban districts so far,” the government added.
