Center keeping an eye on Nepal floods, Amit Shah spoke to Bihar-UP CM, NDRF on high alert

After the sudden floods in Nepal, the central government is keeping a close watch on the situation. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has spoken to the Chief Ministers of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh in view of the possible impact of the disaster. The Center has also put the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on high alert along with local administration and relief teams in the border areas. The government says that the water level is decreasing in Nepal and at present there is no need to panic.

Amit Shah expressed grief over the horrors of flood in Nepal by posting on X. He said that his condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in this disaster. He said that the Government of India stands with Nepal in this hour of crisis.

The Home Minister spoke to the Chief Ministers of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh regarding the possible impact of the disaster in Nepal. He said that NDRF along with local administration and relief teams have been put on high alert in the border areas which may be affected by floods.

According to Central Water Commission (CWC) advisory and media reports, the water level of Trishuli river suddenly rose at Phurke Khola, about 160 km from the Indian border in Nepal, due to flash flood or Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) near the Nepal-China border. In view of the possibility of its impact on the low-lying areas of the Gandak River in India, surveillance has been increased.

People are being evacuated safely to border areas

The state governments of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh have taken steps to evacuate people living near the India-Nepal border to safe places and provide them necessary assistance. Both the states have been advised to remain alert and continuously monitor the situation.

Home Ministry officials are continuously monitoring the situation in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Jal Shakti Ministry and Defense Ministry. According to CWC, the water level in the reservoirs on the Nepal side is decreasing and the situation is under control. The government has said that at present there is no situation of panic.

There have also been reports of Indian tourists going missing in the affected areas of Nepal. The Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu have issued emergency helpline numbers for help and information to flood-affected Indian citizens.
