Vote counting for 10,245 councillor posts across 309 urban local bodies in Rajasthan began on Monday. The elections were held in two phases on September 9 and 11, with 76.42% turnout in the first phase and 70.68% in the second.

The BJP and Congress are closely watched in the civic polls ahead of the 2028 Assembly elections. The polls cover 10 municipal corporations, 51 municipal councils and 248 municipalities, with more than 1.44 crore voters eligible to cast their ballots.

Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, former chief minister Ashok Gehlot and senior BJP and Congress leaders campaigned extensively, making the results an important indicator of the parties' standing in urban Rajasthan. The results will decide the composition of the state's largest civic body in the current elections.

Once councillor results are declared, mayors and chairpersons will be elected on September 21, followed by deputy mayors, deputy chairpersons and municipal vice-presidents on September 22. Last election: Jaipur had two municipal corporations in the 2020 election, with the Congress and BJP winning one each.

The polls covered 250 wards across the Heritage and Greater corporations, with an average voter turnout of 57.5%. This time, Jaipur went to polls for 150 wards BJP leads in Alwar with 28 seats currently, while Congress is ahead with 23 seats.

Bahujan Samaj Party leads with 1 seat. The Alwar Nagar Nigam has a total of 65 seats. BJP leads in Ganganagar with 30 seats out of 65 seats. Congress leads with 17 seats, while independent candidates lead with 18 seats, as per the latest State Election Commission data.
